Job Title: Removal Team Member (Porter and Driver)

Working Pattern: Varies. We are open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. This will include working weekends, early morning, evenings, nights, bank holidays and overnights where required.

Salary: Above national minimum wage.

Your Smooth Move are a removal company based in Herefordshire. We provide customers with an efficient, friendly and affordable service. We pride ourselves on making customers moving experiences as smooth as possible so we look for the best people to ensure this happens.

Removal team members are required to do a lot of heavy lifting and navigate items through peoples properties, all while applying due diligence. We also need to work to tight deadlines due to the nature of the housing industry. To this end, you will need to demonstrate equal measures of stamina, strategic thinking, strength, speed, active listening and communication, attention to detail and safety awareness.

Previous experience in removals or manual trades in an advantage, but not a requirement. We are more interested in your personality and work ethic, as we can teach the rest.

Role and tasks:

  • Customer relations

  • Lifting and carrying furniture 

  • Packing and Unpacking Service

  • Delivering items into storage

  • Domestic & commercial removals

  • Driving Luton and Sprinter vans

  • Securing goods within the vans

  • Working as part of a team and autonomously

  • Planning the loading of items

  • Carrying out thorough checks of customers items prior to and following moves

  • Ensuring the van and the work location (customers home/premises) is kept clean and tidy at all times

 

Personal Qualities:

  • Honest and reliable

  • Ability to work independently 

  • Demonstrate resilience

  • Hold a full clean driving licence

  • Must have a minimum of one year experience driving a 3.5 ton Luton or Long wheelbase van

  • Work well as part of a team

  • Have good attention to detail

  • Be meticulous and careful

  • Be polite, compassionate, respectful and treat people with dignity

  • Work flexibly

  • Act professionally 

  • Respect customers privacy

Removal Team Supervisor and Driver

Hours: Negotiable (minimum of 16 hours a week)

Salary: Starting salary of £12 per hour.

Working pattern: We are open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week so a range of shifts will be available. You must be prepared to work flexibly. This will include working weekends, early morning, evenings, nights, bank holidays and to do overnights where required.

We pride ourselves on making customers moving experiences as smooth as possible so we look for the best people to ensure this happens.

Movers are required to do a lot of heavy lifting and navigate items through peoples properties, all while applying due diligence. We also need to work to tight deadlines due to the nature of the housing industry. To this end, you will need to demonstrate equal measures of stamina, strategic thinking, strength, speed, active listening and communication, attention to detail and safety awareness.

 

The supervisor will be expected to lead on house moves and work independently on man and van jobs.  We expect supervisors to support the development of the removal teams and lead by example, working collaboratively and respectfully. 

Role and tasks:

  • Customer relations: Ability to build rapport with customers and provide a service that is tailored to the customers needs. Helping answer customers queries and a high level of customer service. Demonstrating emotional and cultural intelligence.

  • Lifting and carrying furniture: All staff are provided with manual handling awareness training. However, supervisors need to have experience and knowledge of manual handling and ensure the team are following correct lifting techniques.

  • Driving Luton and Sprinter vans

  • Securing goods within the vans

  • Be able to delegate tasks as required and accept direction when given

  • Leading a team on house moves or packing services, and working autonomously on man and van assignments

  • Planning the loading of items

  • Carrying out thorough checks of customers items prior to and following moves

  • Ensuring the van and location is kept clean and tidy at all times

  • Supporting new team members to learn and develop so they can reach their potential and gain confidence in their abilities

  • Supporting the team through good communication and transformational leadership

  • Escalating any potential problems and difficulties to the management team

  • Ensure the team work quickly and conscientiously

  • Keep appropriate records for their team including mileage and hours

  • Be able to motivate others

 

Personal qualities and experience:

  • Honest and reliable

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

  • Demonstrate resilience

  • Hold a full clean driving licence

  • Must have a minimum of  2 years experience driving a 3.5 ton Luton or Long wheelbase van

  • Have good attention to detail

  • Be meticulous and careful

  • Be polite, compassionate, respectful and treat people with dignity

  • Work flexibly

  • Act professionally 

  • Respect customers privacy

  • Lead by example and recognise the skills and potential of the team 

  • Support and encourage team members and support their development

  • ​2 years previous experience in removals or a similar role is essential

​
